Councillor Darron Phillips (Liberal Democrat) Councillor for Baffins Ward until May 2014
Darron Phillips is the Chairman of the Planning Committee and the only contact received from him was a telephone call to the representative of the Coniston Avenue petition explaining that the planning decision was only prelimiary and not final. This misleading message gave way to Darron Phillips never respnding to any of the letters sent directly to him in spite of the fact that he is the Councillor for Baffins Ward the Ward where Coniston Avenue and the proposal site, it would seem, have the misfortune of being located.

It is somewhat remarkable that Darron Phillips relied on other councillors to reply to the Petitioners correspondence to him asking why their specific concerns had not been addressed. Replies came from Luke Subbs and Hugh Mason who live in Southsea, both advising residents in Copnor they will just have to lump it since they considered the decision to be reasonable. Such statements were made with a blatant refusal to engage the actual concerns of the complainants expressed in the Petition. Given this obvious and, it would seem, intentional failure to address the residents' concerns it would have been more appropriate for Darron Phillips, being the Baffins Councillor, Chairman of the Planning Committee and who was copied all correspondence to, at least, note that the replies received from Stubbs and Mason were deficient and therefore respond in a reasoable fashion. This lack of attention to the feelings of residents and his abandonment of duty are an affront to the residents concerned.

But then before we forget, Phillips is a member of the Liberal Democratic party and he dedicates himself to respresenting them. It is perhaps too much for residents to imagine that somehow because some of them voted for him that, at least, he might make the effort to at least act as if he was a concerned and responsive "representative".

Certainly, in terms of the Chairmanship of the Planning Committee it would seem he is a sort of window dressing with planning officers running the show and other Councillors acting as bouncers standing between the residents and Darron Phillips. Why does the system work like this? Maybe Darron Phillips, if he still exists, could explain?
